Some artificial sweeteners, like those found in diet sodas, may increase glucose but evidence is mixed.
Replacing regular sugar with artificial sweetener can reduce or avoid a spike because artificial sweeteners do not raise glucose to the magnitude that carbs and sugars do but managing your glucose is best done by selecting drinks with no- to low-sugar like water (add lemon or herbs for flavor), or sparkling water without any sweeteners.
